Revised genomic competence framework for UK nurses

In partnership with nurses, the National Genomics Education programme has revised the 2010 competency framework to reflect the expansion of genomics services within the NHS. An expert steering committee and consensus group comprising representatives from nursing practice, education and policy developed the revised framework, including new patient case studies. On 27 and 28 November, NHS England’s National Genomics Education programme and Genomics Unit hosted the groundbreaking International Genomics Education and Training Summit. Delegates from more than 40 countries came together to participate in expert-led sessions and facilitated workshops. The summit was a huge success and closed with a universal commitment to the creation of a global community of practice.

Resource of the month: Bitesize Genomics

What is genomics? What is bioinformatics? What is epigenetics? Where does our genome come from, and how does it affect our health? These are just some of the questions posed in our Bitesize Genomics series. Designed for those new to the topic, each one provides a 10-minute introduction to core concepts using film, animation and images. Each Bitesize resource features easy-to-follow summary points and links to further learning.

#Genomics Conversation 2024

Save the date! Join us on Monday 24 to Friday 28 June 2024 for our seventh #GenomicsConversation week of action. This time, we are taking you on a journey through genomics in the NHS. We'll look at how far we've come, how far we’ll go in the future, and meet some of the people making it all a possibility. Rare Therapies Launch Pad

In November, Genomics England launched a new pilot program to support children with rare conditions to access personalised therapies. The programme’s first project will explore the use of individualised therapies known as antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) to treat children with ultra-rare and life-threatening brain conditions. RCOG Genomics Podcasts

The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG) has launched a suite of podcasts on the RCOG Genomics Hub covering the use of genomics in maternity and gynaecology care. The podcasts provide essential information and cover themes including how the use of genomics in day-to-day clinical practice affects healthcare for women and their babies. Festival of Genomics 2024

The annual Festival of Genomics and Biodata returns to London on 24 and 25 January 2024. The two-day festival will feature inspirational speakers discussing the latest in research, clinical breakthroughs and cutting-edge technology.
